The Granite City Council convened today to hear from its standing committees.

The Granite City Council convened today to hear from its standing committees.

The City Council for Granite City, Illinois, met today, Jan. 19, to hear remarks from the city mayor and to assess reports from standing committees.

The committee reports included Planning and Zoning, Legal and Legislative, Public Works, Police, Fire, Wastewater Treatment, Insurance and Safety, Economic Development and Negotiations and Finance.

Planning and Zoning gave a yearly report for 2015 as well as a monthly report for December. The Police Committee announced department promotions. The fire department brought forth a resolution to solicit bids for 24 self-contained breathing apparatuses.

As the meeting continued, Wastewater Treatment examined an ordinance that looks to approve notice to bidders for the construction of wastewater treatment plant aeration tank improvements.

Insurance and Safety spoke about pending litigation, while Economic Development assessed a resolution establishing a time and place for a public hearing related to tax increment financing redevelopment.

In the last standing committee report, Finance gave the treasurer’s report for December.
