Madison County names Gushleff interim board member

Politics

Madison County has announced that Bill Gushleff will serve as interim board member.

Madison County has announced that Bill Gushleff will serve as interim board member.

After Chairman Alan Dunstan recommended him, the Madison County Board accepted and approved the appointment of Bill Gushleff to the board.

The move filled a vacancy that was created when Terry Davis from the 19th district of Granite City resigned.

Dunstan, when making his recommendation, declared that Gushleff would only serve the remainder of Davis’ term, which will end in December of this year.

“Currently, there are two qualified candidates seeking the Democratic nomination to serve as the county board member from the 19th District,” Dunstan said. “I felt it was only fair to recommend an individual to fill the vacancy whose name will not be on the primary ballot in March.”

Gushleff, a Madison County native, has lived in Granite City for more than 25 years. An educator for 34 years, he retired after a 31-year teaching stint at Belleville West High School. He earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees at Southern Illinois University, dual majoring in political science and history first, then adding a master’s degree in history.

“Bill is very qualified to serve on the Madison County Board, and I expect he will make significant contributions during his tenure,” Dunstan said.
