Madison County Community Development is partnering with Ameren Illinois to provide $55,000 in grant funding to county residents' energy bills.

“The partnership between Madison County Community Development and Ameren Illinois serves to help individuals and families in our community get through the winter safely and comfortably,” Madison County Chairman Alan J. Dunstan said. “We are certainly appreciative of Ameren Illinois’ commitment to the well-being of our residents.”

Grant funds were given to select applicants falling between 150 to 200 percent of the 2015 Federal Poverty Guidelines. Ameren selected qualifying applicants based on their 30-day income and household numbers.

Ameren Illinois President Richard Mark noted that the grant is part of Ameren Illinois’ ongoing dedication to improving Illinois communities.

“Many customers, particularly those in lower-income areas, are seeking relief to pay their energy bills,” Mark said. “Ameren Illinois is committed to serving the community and that’s why we’re partnering with local social service agencies to provide relief to those who need it most.”

Ameren’s Madison County grant is a part of $1 million in total energy assistance it has provided across Illinois. Its energy assistance funding falls under its Ameren Cares' program, which it invests in nonprofits and local charitable causes.
