The Granite City Council has approved a new bookstore at 1400 Niedringhaus.

Granite City Council recently convened, under the supervision of Mayor Ed Hagnauer, to approve construction of A Novel Idea - Bookstore & More at 1400 Niedringhaus in a district zoned D-1 Arts and Entertainment.

Other topics discussed at the meeting included approving the establishment of Mini Storage Units at 1736 Grand in a district zoned D-3 Industrial, assessing an ordinance to amend the municipal code concerning the discharge of firearms and examining the application for Johnson Road from Illinois Route 203 to Terrace Lane FY 2020 in the amount of $524,351.99.

Present at the meeting were Hagnauer; Gerald Williams and Bob Pickerell from Ward 1; Nikki Petrillo and Walmer Schmidtke from Ward 2; Tim Elliot and Dan McDowell from Ward 3; Bill Davis and Paul Jackstadt from Ward 4; and Ron Simpson and Don Thompson from Ward 5.
