79.6 percent of Carlinville High School's 2015 graduating class enrolled in college

Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 79.6 percent of Carlinville High School's 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.

The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.

For CHS, its college enrollment rate marks an improvement over 2014, when 68.5 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.

Among high schools in Metro East, the class of 2015 college readiness rate at Triad High School (53.6 percent) was higher than at CHS. East Alton-Wood River High Sch (25 percent), Carlyle High School (32.9 percent), Alton High School (40 percent) and Marissa Junior & Senior High School (46.4 percent) were all lower.

The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two and four year colleges.

Enrollment at CHS in 2015 was 420. 113 (26.9 percent) were seniors.

Also according to ISBE, 49.1 percent of CHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, versus an average of 46 percent statewide.

All students who score a 21 on the ACT qualify as "college ready."

CHS students did better on reading (44.3 percent) and English (67 percent) and worse on science (38.7) and math (44.3).

Only 25.5 percent of CHS students were college ready in all four subjects, according to ISBE.
