Alton High wins division championship at Bob Guelker tournament

The Alton High School's boys soccer team won its division championship in the 62nd annual Catholic Youth Council/Bob Guelker Tournament, held Sept. 19-24 in St. Louis.

The Redbirds beat Seckman 2-1 to win the Sullivan Division.

Alton earned its spot in the final by beating Troy 2-1 in the semifinals.

In pool play, Alton beat Washington 4-0 and Affton, and lost to Seckman 2-0.

Alton qualified for the semifinals by having the best point total among non-pool winners. The tourney's point system awarded four points per win, two points per tie and one point per shutout. Seckman won the pool with 15 points, while Alton had 10.

Other pool winners were Liberty, with 14 points, and Troy, with 14 points. Seckman beat Liberty 2-1 in the other semifinal.
