The price of local government: City of Wood River

The city of Wood River budget was $18.17 million for its 2015 fiscal year, or $4,832.91 per household.

That's a decrease of 25.6 percent from 2014 when the city spent $24.42 million, or $6,495.28 per household.

Wood River has 3,760 households and a population of 10,657.

Since 2001, the city of Wood River budget has fallen by 10.4 percent, from $20.28 million. The city population has fallen 7.2 percent over the same period, from 11,490.

Salaries accounted for 27 percent of city spending in 2015. Wood River property taxpayers paid $4.91 million for 68 full-time employees and 137 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 80 full-time employees and 150 part-time employees and spent $5.15 million.
