The Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville volleyball team has strengthened their squad before the start of the upcoming season, with the addition of setter Mallory Nicholson.
Nicholson transferred to Edwardsville from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, where she was the team's starting setter last season. At UTPB she played all 30 matches last year and led the team in assists and service aces.
Last season, Nicholson had an impressive six double-doubles and in her final match for UTPB, she racked up 59 assists.
She is a sophomore and is originally from Sugarland, Texas, where she attended Austin High School. In high school, Nicholson won a 6A state championship in 2015 and was the team's starting setter.
The Cougars finished last season with a 22-8 record and will kick off the 2017 volleyball season on Aug. 25 against the University of Toledo.
