City of Edwardsville Public Safety Committee met Feb. 28.

The Edwardsville Public Safety Committee meeting was called to order by Alderwoman Janet Stack at 5:30 p.m. in the Governor Edwards Conference Room, 118 Hillsboro Avenue with a quorum present: Alderwoman Janet Stack, via Zoom, and Alderman Chris Farrar. Alderwoman Jennifer Warren was excused.

Motion by Alderman Farrar, second by Alderwoman Stack to allow Alderwoman Stack to participate remotely. Motion carried, Stack and Farrar voted aye.

Public Comment:

Approval of Minutes:

Motion by Alderwoman Stack, second by Alderman Farrar to approve minutes from the Public Safety Committee meeting held Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Motion carried, Stack and Farrar voted aye.

Police Department:

Informational Item(s):

Hiring Update

A lateral hire background check is being processed and will be reviewed next week. New hiring testing will be April 15, 2023 and the deadline to apply is March 31, 2023.

Fire Department:

Action Item(s):

Approval of a Resolution Authorizing the Sole Source Purchase of Diesel Particulate Exhaust Removal System for the East Fire Station at a Cost not to Exceed $60,000.00. This resolution allows the Edwardsville Fire Department (EFD) for a sole source purchase of a Diesel Particulate Exhaust Removal System. This exhaust removal system will be the same across all three (3) stations and allow vehicles to move throughout all stations.

Motion by Alderwoman Stack, second by Alderman Farrar for an approval of a Resolution Authorizing the Sole Source Purchase of Diesel Particulate Exhaust Removal System for the East Fire Station at a Cost not to Exceed $60,000.00. Motion carried Stack and Farrar voted aye.

Informational Item(s):

• Staffing Update

The EFD has hired two (2) new firefighter who are attending the Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) Fire Academy.

Discussion Item(s):

Discussion on one-way street for South Benton Street around the island.

A discussion with residents determined there was no action needed.

The next regular scheduled meeting of the Public Safety Committee is Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Motion to adjourn by Alderwoman Stack, second by Alderman Farrar. With no further business at hand the meeting was adjourned at 5:51 p.m. Motion carried Stack and Farrar voted aye.
