There were 19 offenders released on parole during 2018 that live near Illinois zip code 62221, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by Metro East Sun.

The data shows that 17 men and two women were released in the Belleville zip code. Of the parolees, three were veterans, and the median age was 37. The youngest parolee was a 19-year-old man convicted of a property crime in 2016, and the oldest was a 58-year-old man convicted of a property crime in 2018.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Barry Tobin. He was convicted of a crime involving alcohol in 2011, when he was 19 years old. He is now 27.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
