East Alton School District 13 is encouraging parents to participate in the Illinois 5 Essential Survey, which aims to gather feedback on school conditions and support improvement efforts. The district notes that if at least 20 percent of parents from each school complete the survey, a parent supplement report will be generated. Participation is confidential, and responses will not be linked to individuals or their children.

The survey process involves visiting the designated website, selecting the Parent Survey option, entering basic information such as email (optional), county, school, and number of children enrolled, and then proceeding through the questions. Parents with more than one child may choose to complete the survey multiple times.

According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education, East Alton School District 13 serves Madison County and includes East Alton Middle School, Eastwood Elementary School, and Washington Elementary School. The district had an enrollment of 770 students in the 2019-2020 school year and serves grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Additional demographic information shows that the student body is predominantly White (87.5 percent), with Black students making up 9.6 percent and Hispanic students accounting for 0.9 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

Financial records indicate that in 2020, East Alton School District 13 spent $18,471 per student for a total expenditure of $14,222,932 (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). Teacher statistics reveal there are 53 teachers in the district earning an average salary of $55,361 before pension contributions; women make up 83.1 percent of staff while men comprise 16.9 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). No teachers reported more than ten absences during a school year.

The district has also reported a chronic truancy rate higher than the state average: In the 2020 school year, there were 152 chronically truant students—defined as missing five percent or more of mandated school days without valid excuse—which equates to a rate of 19.8 percent compared to a statewide average of 9.6 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

“We appreciate your time and feedback!” states East Alton School District 13 regarding participation in the survey.
