Illinois State Representative Amy Elik announced on March 23 that the Illinois House of Representatives is entering a busy week as lawmakers approach the March 27 deadline to advance House Bills out of committee. Elik said the upcoming days in Springfield will be focused on committees reviewing and voting on proposed legislation.

The deadline is important because it determines which bills can continue through the legislative process this session. According to Elik, “House Republicans introduced numerous measures this session to bring down costs for taxpayers, improve public safety, and increase accountability in state government.” She said that action from Majority Party Democrats is needed so these proposals can move forward.

Elik emphasized the need for bipartisan cooperation, saying, “Now, Majority Party Democrats need to get on board and bring these bills for a vote in committee so we can get Illinois on the best path forward.”

Elik was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 111th House District in 2021, succeeding former state representative Monica Bristow according to available information.

As lawmakers prepare for an intensive week of committee activity, observers will be watching whether key pieces of legislation are advanced before Friday’s deadline.
