Illinois State Representative Amy Elik announced on Apr. 8 that House Bill 4934, which aims to raise awareness for sickle cell disease, has passed the Illinois House. The bill proposes the creation of a special license plate decal and establishes a fund to support programs related to sickle cell disease.
The initiative is designed to provide ongoing support and resources for individuals affected by sickle cell disease in Illinois. By creating a dedicated license plate decal, the legislation seeks both to increase public awareness and generate funds for relevant health programs.
During discussion of the bill, Elik recognized local advocates Tammy Smith and her daughter Precious for their efforts in supporting the measure’s passage. “Elik shouted out local advocates Tammy Smith and her daughter Precious, who advocated for the passage of this bill,” according to the announcement.
Elik was elected as a Republican representative to the Illinois State House in 2021 for the state’s 111th District, succeeding Monica Bristow, according to available information.
The legislation will now move forward to be considered by the Senate. Its progress can be tracked through official legislative channels.
