U.S. Representative Mike Bost has announced that the U.S. Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program is now accepting applications for federal grants. These grants aim to assist local law enforcement in combating illegal drug activity, enhancing officer wellness, and improving community policing.
“Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe,” stated Bost. “These federal grants offer much-needed support to local police departments as they crack down on illegal drugs and make our streets safer. I will do all I can to ensure they have the tools and resources they need to succeed in Southern Illinois.”
Applications for most programs are due by June 30, 2025. More information on how to apply can be found on the COPS Office website.
The open COPS grant programs include:
– $16 million available for state law enforcement to investigate methamphetamine-related crimes.
– $35 million available to support opioid investigations in high-impact states.
– $9.8 million available to expand mental health programs for officers and their families.
– $12.8 million available to fund innovative policing strategies.
– $8 million available to develop national resources that support law enforcement efforts.
– $2 million available for critical response and agency assessment programs.
– $18 million available to fund crisis intervention and de-escalation training.
– $150,000 available to expand the Blue Alert system for fallen or injured officers.
