FOIA Request to City Of Alton Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government, we at Metro East Sun have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Alton Finance Department. This request, dated October 31, 2024, seeks comprehensive records of city sales tax payments from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024.

The specific records requested include a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city during this period. The list should include the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax paid by each entity. In addition to this detailed breakdown, we have also asked for the total amount of sales tax collected by the city over this same timeframe.

We believe access to these public records is crucial for us at Metro East Sun as we continue our work in providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. It is through such transparency that we can ensure public institutions are held accountable and the public remains informed about their operations.

In line with our role as a media organization disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver for this FOIA request. We await a response from the City Of Alton Finance Department and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
