FOIA Request to City of Grafton Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Metro East Sun have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Grafton. Our request seeks access to records detailing businesses registered with the city over the past week. Specifically, we are requesting information that includes the Business Name, Business Number, Business Type, Business Address, Issued Date, Status, and Registered Agent Name.

This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and we have asked for these records in electronic format. As members of the media dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public, access to such records is vital for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that this access will help us provide valuable insights into local business activities and contribute to informed public discourse.

In line with our role in disseminating information and our affiliation with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization that aids media companies in investigating governmental agencies—we have requested a fee waiver for this FOIA request. This coalition leverages Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to enhance transparency and inform the American electorate about government actions.

We look forward to receiving a response from the City of Grafton and continuing our efforts to deliver important news coverage on local governmental affairs.
