FOIA Request to City of Wood River Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Metro East Sun have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Wood River. The request seeks access to records detailing businesses registered with the city in the past week. Specifically, we are requesting information that includes the business name, business number, business type, business address, issued date, status, and registered agent name.

This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and we have asked for the records to be provided in electronic format. As members of the media dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public, we believe access to these records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Furthermore, given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.

We are also affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. Through leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, this coalition aims to enhance transparency and inform the American electorate about government actions.

We look forward to receiving the requested information from the City of Wood River and will continue our efforts to provide insightful coverage on local governmental affairs.
