Illinois officials recognized Teacher Appreciation Week, thanking educators across the state for their dedication and commitment, according to a May 4 announcement. The statement highlighted the important role teachers play in shaping students’ futures and supporting their success in school and life.

The recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the daily efforts of Illinois teachers. The announcement said, “Wishing all our Illinois educators a very happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Thank you for the dedication and care you bring to the classrooms every day. Each of you help shape futures by ensuring children succeed in school and in life.”

The message also included further appreciation: “We appreciate all that you do!”

Schmidt, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 114th House District, replacing previous state representative LaToya Greenwood, according to Ballotpedia.

Teacher Appreciation Week is observed annually as a way for communities and leaders to express gratitude toward those who educate future generations.
