Kahok Band hosts annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser at Collinsville High

The Collinsville High School Bands Annual Spaghetti Dinner will take place on Saturday, February 28. The event is scheduled from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm at the high school cafeteria and is open to the public for both dine-in and carry-out options.

Attendees can expect a meal that includes spaghetti, bread, salad, dessert, and a beverage for $15 per person. Children aged five and under can eat for free. The dinner will also feature raffles and live performances by student musicians.

This annual event supports the Kahok band program and has become a tradition in the Collinsville community.

Collinsville High School is part of the Collinsville Community Unit School District 10, which serves Madison and St. Clair counties. The district encompasses several schools including Caseyville Elementary School, Collinsville Middle School, Dorris Intermediate School, Jefferson Elementary School, John A. Renfro Elementary School, Kreitner Elementary School, Maryville Elementary School, Summit Elementary School, Twin Echo Elementary School, and Webster Elementary School. The district reported an enrollment of 6,169 students during the 2019-2020 school year and serves grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. For that same period, spending per student was $16,872 with a total expenditure of $104 million.

According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education, there are 418 teachers in the district earning an average salary of $60,392 before pension contributions; women make up 81 percent of teachers while men account for 19 percent. None of these teachers had more than ten absences in a school year.

Demographically, the district’s student population is made up of approximately 56 percent White students, 14.1 percent Black students, 24.1 percent Hispanic students, and 0.5 percent Asian students.

In terms of attendance issues during the 2020 school year, there were 191 chronically truant students in District 10—defined as those missing five percent or more of required school days without valid excuse—which represents a chronic truancy rate of 3.1 percent compared to a statewide average of 9.6 percent.
