Illinois State Representative Kevin Schmidt visited the East St. Louis Public Library on March 13 to observe recent renovations and updates made possible through per capita grants. During his visit, Schmidt toured the facility with executive director Lakeisha Adams.
The improvements at the library are part of ongoing efforts to enhance public resources in the community. Libraries often serve as important centers for education and access to information, making such updates significant for local residents.
Schmidt said, “The East St. Louis Public Library has had significant renovations and updates with the help of per capital grants! I want to thank the library’s executive director Lakeisha Adams for meeting with me and giving me a tour!”
He also noted that the library still maintains an operational microfiche reader, highlighting both its historical resources and modern upgrades.
Schmidt, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 114th House District, replacing previous state representative LaToya Greenwood according to Ballotpedia.
The visit underscores continued investment in public institutions and may encourage further support for similar projects in other communities.
