There have been 69,729 confirmed coronavirus cases in Madison County as of March 1, with 771 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (558,442 cases) and Cook County (553,501 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 7,244, while Cook County recorded 6,825 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 54,708,141, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 679,830 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,411,183 were male and 1,577,657 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 17,925, while female deaths stood at 14,878.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 20,599 whites, 6,056 African-Americans, 4,592 Hispanics, 1,017 Asians, and 539 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
