Jennifer Korte, Vice Chairman of Madison County Republicans, expressed criticism towards Illinois Democrats, stating that “playing political games clearly matters more than actually listening to constituents.” Korte’s remarks were made to Metro East Sun.
“Governor Pritzker’s plan to reshape Illinois districts for political purposes reveals a concerning level of partisan manipulation,” said Korte. “Rather than championing voter equality, he’s using his position to skew representation in his party’s favor. The result is a weakened democracy where many voices go unheard. This behavior reflects a troubling trend in Illinois politics, where loyalty to party trumps duty to the public.”
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Governor JB Pritzker suggested that Illinois and other Democratic-led states might engage in their own redistricting efforts if Texas Republicans proceed with plans to redraw legislative maps. This initiative aims to secure more GOP congressional seats. Speaking alongside visiting Texas Democrats on July 25, Pritzker warned that changes in one state could prompt similar actions in others, including Illinois. His comments faced criticism from Illinois Republicans, who accused him of hypocrisy due to his approval of heavily gerrymandered maps in 2021 that benefited Democrats. Pritzker dismissed these claims by saying all options remain on the table.
The Princeton Gerrymandering Project evaluated Illinois’s current congressional map and assigned it an ‘F’ grade. The score was attributed to a significant Democratic incumbent advantage, poor competitiveness compared to other potential maps, and inadequate geographic features.
Fox News reported that Texas legislators are preparing for a special legislative session focused on redrawing congressional maps ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Supported by President Trump, this effort may bolster the Republican party’s narrow House majority by adjusting district lines and potentially adding up to five favorable seats. Conservative leaders cite constitutional concerns and Justice Department input on minority-represented districts as reasons for the changes. While Democrats criticize the move as politically motivated and plan legal challenges, Republicans view it as a strategy to maintain control in a competitive cycle.
