Rep. Mike Bost, U.S. Congressman representing Southern Illinois, posted a series of updates on his Twitter account in late January 2026 covering topics from education to constituent services and tax relief.
On January 25, Bost recognized the start of National School Choice Week, highlighting educators in his district and advocating for supporting their efforts without federal overreach. He stated, “Today kicks off National School Choice Week. We have so many wonderful teachers and educational professionals in classrooms across Southern Illinois. We can support their dedicated efforts and ensure our children have the resources for bright futures without relying on https://t.co/Wve8aus66Q”.
A day later, on January 26, Bost informed constituents about temporary office closures due to severe weather conditions impacting the region. He wrote, “Due to the effects of the recent winter storm in Southern Illinois, all of my district offices are temporarily closed and mobile office hours will be rescheduled. Our permanent offices are located in Mascoutah (618-622-0766), Effingham (217-240-3170), and Murphysboro”.
Later that evening, Bost addressed the beginning of tax season and outlined new benefits under recently passed legislation: “Tax season officially starts today, and thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, many families across Southern Illinois will see real relief when they file their returns. The law doubles the Child Tax Credit and standard deduction, creates a new deduction for seniors up to”.
Bost has served as a U.S. Representative since winning his first election in 2014 against William L. Enyart with 52.5% of the vote. He subsequently secured reelection in every cycle since then: defeating Charles Baricevic in 2016 with 54.3%, Raymond Lenzi in 2020 with 60.4%, Brendan Kelly in 2018 with 51.6%, and Chip Markel most recently in 2022 with a commanding 75% majority.
