U.S. Representative Mike Bost of Illinois’ 12th district released a statement following the House passage of the SAVE America Act, which introduces new requirements for voter identification and registration.
“I voted for the SAVE America Act because the right to vote in American elections belongs to American citizens, period. This bill puts commonsense safeguards in place by requiring proof of citizenship to register, photo ID to cast a ballot, and real accountability to clean up voter rolls. If we can require an ID to board a plane, rent an apartment, drive a car, or buy prescription medication, we can require it to vote. The American people deserve elections they can trust, and I will never apologize for fighting to protect the integrity of their vote,” Bost said.
Bost has represented Illinois’ 12th district in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Gerald Hawkins. He has secured re-election several times: in 2022 he won against Chip Markel with 75% of the vote; in 2020 he defeated Raymond Lenzi with over 60%; in 2018 he prevailed over Brendan Kelly; in 2016 he beat Charles Baricevic; and in his initial election in 2014 he won against William L. Enyart.
