There were 21 offenders convicted of drug crimes released on parole in St. Clair County during the fourth quarter of 2018, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Metro East Sun.

The data shows that 18 men and three women were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for drug crimes, one was a veteran, and the median age was 37. The youngest parolee was a 28-year-old man sentenced in 2017, and the oldest was a 56-year-old man sentenced in 2015.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Gary Morrison Jr. He was convicted in 2012 when he was 41 years old. He is now 48.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
