Rep. Mike Bost, U.S. Congressman from Illinois, posted a series of messages on X addressing the ongoing government shutdown, his office’s continued operations, and the anniversary of the United States Naval Academy.
On October 9, 2025, Bost highlighted his participation in a press conference at the U.S. Capitol with Speaker Johnson regarding the shutdown. He stated, “I joined Speaker Johnson in the U.S. Capitol this morning for a press conference on the Schumer Shutdown. I discussed the heavy burden our men and women in uniform face each day as the shutdown drags on. Veterans’ mental services, home care, and transition assistance for those”.
Later that day, Bost reassured constituents that his offices remain operational despite the shutdown. In a post dated October 9, 2025, he wrote, “Despite the government shutdown, please know my offices remain open and ready to assist with federal casework. While there may be delays in responses from federal agencies at this time, we’re here to help. If there’s any way we can be of assistance, please reach out to my office”.
On October 10, 2025, Bost recognized a significant milestone for the U.S. Naval Academy. He stated, “Today we celebrate 180 years of the United States Naval Academy developing leaders dedicated to serving our nation. I’m proud to cosponsor legislation recognizing this milestone and honoring the Midshipmen who carry on its proud tradition. Go Navy!”.
Rep. Mike Bost has represented Illinois in Congress since 2015 and has secured re-election in multiple cycles. In 2022, he defeated Chip Markel with 75% of the vote. In previous elections, he also prevailed over Brendan Kelly in 2018, Raymond Lenzi in 2020, Charles Baricevic in 2016, and William L. Enyart in 2014.
