Rep. Mike Bost, a U.S. Congressman representing Southern Illinois, recently used his social media platform to address several legislative and social issues, including law enforcement appreciation, gender transition legislation, and abortion statistics among college-aged women.
On January 9, 2026, Bost marked National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day by stating: “Today is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, a time to honor the brave men and women in Southern Illinois and across our great nation who put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities. The following day, January 10, he announced his support for new legislation concerning gender transitions for minors: “This week I’m proud to cosponsor the Protecting Children from Foreign Mutilation Act, which bars foreign individuals who perform or facilitate gender transitions on American children from entering the United States. This legislation protects our children from irreversible medical”.
On January 11, Bost addressed abortion rates among young women in the U.S., referencing data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): “Many college-aged women face pressure to end their pregnancies, and according to the CDC, almost 30 percent of all abortions in the U.S. are performed on women between ages 20 and 24. Too often, many young women do not know the support available under Title IX. That is why I”.
Bost has served as a congressman since winning his first election in 2014 against William L. Enyart with 52.5% of the vote. He continued his electoral success in subsequent elections: defeating Charles Baricevic in 2016 with 54.3%, Raymond Lenzi in 2020 with 60.4%, Brendan Kelly in 2018 with 51.6%, and Chip Markel in 2022 with a significant margin of 75%.
