Rep. Mike Bost, U.S. Congressman from Illinois, posted several updates on his social media accounts in mid-January 2026, discussing federal education policy changes, celebrating a local cultural icon, and highlighting a recent healthcare proposal.

On January 16, Bost commented on the Department of Education’s new initiative to shift educational decision-making authority back to state governments. He stated: “The Department of Education recently launched a new webpage outlining efforts to return education decisions back to the states. We all know parents and teachers understand their kids better than any Beltway bureaucrat in Washington. Under President Trump’s leadership, we’re” (January 16, 2026).

The following day, Bost marked Popeye the Sailor Man Day by referencing the character’s origins in his district. He wrote: “Happy Popeye the Sailor Man Day! Popeye’s roots run deep in Southern Illinois, with the character’s creator, Elzie Crisler Segar, coming from Chester. Popeye is a point of pride for the community, with statues around town celebrating a character known for grit, hard work, and” (January 17, 2026).

Later that same day, Bost shared details about former President Donald Trump’s newly announced healthcare plan. According to his post: “President Trump recently announced his Great Healthcare Plan to put patients over profits by lowering drug costs, cutting premiums, and holding insurance companies accountable. The plan ensures Americans pay the same low drug prices as other nations, increases price transparency,” (January 17, 2026).

Mike Bost has represented Illinois’ congressional district since first winning election in 2014 and has consistently secured re-election victories over various challengers through subsequent cycles.
