Rep. Mike Bost, a U.S. Congressman representing Illinois’ 12th district since 2015, shared his reactions to President Trump’s State of the Union Address in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) between February 24 and February 25, 2026.
On February 24, Bost commented on recent economic trends as the State of the Union approached: “As President Trump prepares to climb the House dais for tonight’s State of the Union Address, there’s much to celebrate. After inflation peaked at 9% and mortgage rates soared under the Biden administration, inflation is now down to 2.4% and mortgage rates are at a three-year”.
A few hours later, on February 25, Bost posted a link without additional commentary: “https://t.co/wyP9r5HFCx”.
Later that day, he addressed an interaction during the address: “During his State of the Union Address, @POTUS invited legislators to stand up if they agreed with him that the first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens. Not a single Democrat stood in support of this fundamental principle.”
Mike Bost has served in Congress since replacing Gerald Hawkins in 2015. He has maintained his seat through several election cycles with significant margins against opponents such as Chip Markel in 2022 (75% to 25%), Raymond Lenzi in 2020 (60.4% to 39.7%), Charles Baricevic in 2016 (54.3% to 39.7%), William L. Enyart in 2014 (52.5% to 41.9%), and Brendan Kelly in 2018 (51.6% to 45.4%).
