East Chain of Rocks Road near Mitchell Elementary School will be closed at the railroad tracks on Monday and Tuesday, December 15-16, due to scheduled work in the area. The Granite City Community Unit School District 9 (GCSD9) administration informed families that this closure will affect traffic flow around the school and is expected to cause bus delays throughout the district.
Families are advised to allow for extra travel time during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up on both days. “This closure will significantly impact traffic flow around Mitchell Elementary School and is also expected to cause bus delays throughout the district on both days. Families should plan for additional travel time during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up,” stated GCSD9 Administration.
The district recommended parents use the FirstView 1.0 bus tracking app by First Student, available at https://myfirstview.com, to help monitor student transportation during this period. Parents need a district code (V2Z3A), student ID, and last name to access tracking information.
“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work through this temporary traffic disruption. Our transportation team will continue to monitor the situation and adjust routes as necessary to keep students moving safely,” said GCSD9 Administration.
Granite City Community Unit School District 9 serves several schools in Madison County, including Coolidge Junior High School, Frohardt Elementary School, Granite City High School, Grigsby Intermediate School, Maryville Elementary School, Mitchell Elementary School, Prather Elementary School, and Wilson Elementary School.
