Illinois State Representative Kevin Schmidt attended a “Pumps & Politics” meeting hosted by the East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at the East St. Louis City Hall on March 17. The event brought together community leaders and residents to discuss issues such as affordable housing, education for future generations, and economic development.

The meeting aimed to foster dialogue among local stakeholders about ways to address key challenges facing the community. Attendees focused on expanding access to affordable housing, improving educational opportunities for young people, and supporting economic growth in East St. Louis.

Schmidt said, “I appreciate the invite and enjoyed the conversations with everyone who attended the meeting. Working together always makes a positive difference!”

Schmidt, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 114th House District, replacing previous state representative LaToya Greenwood according to Ballotpedia.

The event reflects ongoing efforts by local organizations and elected officials to engage with residents on important policy matters affecting their neighborhoods.
