State Senator Erica Harriss of Glen Carbon has expressed concerns following the signing of SB25, known as the “Energy Omnibus” Bill, into law. Harriss criticized the legislation, stating that it will increase energy costs and reduce reliability for Illinois residents and businesses.
“With the governor’s signature, Illinois is moving further down a path that makes energy more expensive and less dependable for families and small businesses. This law removes important protections that helped keep utility bills affordable, weakens local input on projects that impact communities, and commits taxpayer dollars to technologies that are not yet capable of meeting our energy needs. Illinois residents deserve an energy policy focused on reliability, affordability, and common sense. Unfortunately, this new law does not deliver that,” Harriss said in a statement.
Harriss, a Republican who was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2023 to represent the 56th Senate District after succeeding Kris Tharp, has positioned herself as an advocate for policies she says prioritize affordability and reliability in energy.
