James R. Pennekamp, a resident of Granite City, Illinois and a man with a distinguished record of accomplishments and community service, has been nominated to the Board of Commissioners for the Metro East Sanitary District.

The nomination comes from Alan Dustan, chairman of the board for Madison County, Illinois. He cited Pennekamp’s career of 36 years in public service in addition to his promotion of the county’s economic development, as reasons for the appointment.

“Jim Pennekamp has spent his professional career working to enhance economic development in Madison County and Southwestern Illinois, and has been immersed in just about every significant development during the past three decades,” Dustan said. “Jim (Pennekamp) has successfully worked with businessmen and women, educators and elected officials and representatives from both political parties for the betterment of our area. I cannot think of a better, more qualified individual to serve on the Metro East Sanitary District Board of Commissioners than Jim Pennekamp.”

Throughout his distinguished career, Pennekamp has served as the president of the Madison County Flood Prevention District, special assistant to the Chancellor for Regional Economic Development at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and executive director of the Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois.
