Granite City Board of Appeals voted on a local construction issue at recent meeting

Garage

A petition for a detached garage was heard during a recent meeting of the Board of Appeals of Granite City, Illinois.

After swearing in new board members, Acting Chairman Kitty Reither gave the floor to Charles R. Thomas. He had petitioned for a zero side setback variance for a detached garage of 24 feet by 24 feet for his property at 2745 Ralph. The property was 40 feet by 125 feet in total and already had an existing 12-foot driveway.

Zoning Administrator Steve Willaredt, who was present at the meeting, noted that the property sat on a corner lot and has double frontage according to zoning ordinances. Willaredt stated that he would like green space between the garage and the sidewalk. After board members gave their thoughts, the board voted on and passed the petition.

Board members present at the meeting included Reither, Barbara Hawkins, David Czerny and Cheri Petrillo. Also present were Willaredt, Alderman Tim Elliott and Alderman Dan McDowell.
