Alton Plan Commission votes on Towing Dispatch Centers petition.

The Plan Commission for the City of Alton, Illinois, recently met to vote on a petition by Charles Wiley Jr. that would add Motor Vehicle Towing Dispatch Centers to the Special Uses section of the R-2 Single Family Residential District rules.

Wiley, who also sought a permit to operate a motor vehicle towing dispatch center at 826-834 E 7th, took to the floor to present his proposal. He noted that this center would only do minor work on vehicles. No derelict vehicles would be stored on the site.

The commission had many questions for Wiley. Wiley provided answers, such as the fact that towed vehicles would not be stored on the lot -- this facility would just be for paperwork. Additionally, Wiley answered one question by noting that he is the owner of the building and the tenant who wants to buy the property is John Swengrosh.

After the public hearing, the committee convened. Terry Dooley made a motion to add Motor Vehicle Towing Dispatch Centers to the list of Special Uses within the R-2 Single Family Residential district. No one seconded the motion, however, and it proceeded to fail.
