The City Council of Collinsville, Illinois, recently held a special meeting and strategic session to give updates on the 2016 budget overview.

Finance Director Tamara Ammann provided the overview, addressing revenue and expenditure budget assumptions. With revenue, the council can expect a two percent increase in 2016, a five percent property tax increase, three percent water and sewer increases and a five percent utility tax increase.

With expenditure, the council can expect two percent wage increases for non-union employees and five percent insurance increases. Ammann also noted that in 2016, there would be three new positions added to the city -- city engineer, certified building official and street laborer.

Before adjourning, Fire Department Chief Mark Emert advocated for 32 full-time firefighters for 2016, while Police Department Chief Steve Evans advocated for 44 full-time sworn officers.
