The Alton City Council recently addressed four major ordinances at its last meeting.

With Mayor Brant Walker presiding, the City Council for Alton, Illinois, recently convened to discuss four new ordinances.

The first, Ordinance No. 7504, dedicates the city-owned real estate next to Rock Springs Park as public right-of-way. The next two, Ordinance No. 7505 and Ordinance No. 7506, amend the zoning ordinance concerning special uses. The final ordinance discussed at the meeting grants a special use permit to allow the operation of a fitness center at the property located at 900-918 Union.

The council also heard reports from its special committees, including the Alton Beautification and Clean City Committee, as well as the Alton Historic Commission and the Park and Recreation Commission.

Before adjourning, the council held an executive session to consider information regarding appointment, employment or dismissal of employees; collective negotiation matters; and any pending litigation.

Alderpersons present at the meeting included Jim Ryan, Carolyn MacAfee, Mike Velloff, Alice Martin, Charles Brake, Gary Fleming and David Boulds.
