The Edwardsville City Council recently met to discuss topics ranging from charity events to liquor licenses.

The City of Edwardsville City Council recently convened on a host of city topics -- from liquor licenses to local charity events.

The council first approved a license to conduct a raffle for a Southern Illinois University Edwardsville event with Susan G. Komen for the Cure before tackling a few liquor license requests and approving licenses for Wang Gang and the Shangri-La Group. A tobacco license was also given to Big Bev's Friar Tuck Beverage.

The council then held brief discussions related to the Finance, Public Safety and Administrative and Community Service committees.

Before adjourning, the council filed for second reading an ordinance granting a franchise to Charter Communications Entertainment and assigning the right to erect, maintain and operate a cable system in the city.
