Madison County Institutions Committee met June 14.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Present: J. Futrell, N. Petrillo, B. Malone, J. Minner, C. Dutton

Absent: E. Harriss, K. Novacich, D. Moore, L. Dalton

Others: B. Lavite, A. Reinking, J. Roth, C. Cohan, J. Parkin

J. Futrell chaired the meeting.

Mr. Malone moved, seconded by Ms. Dutton, to approve the May meeting minutes. Motion Carried.

Education:

A. Reinking informed the committee that the end of the school year ended well. He highlighted areas of the monthly education report. J. Futrell suggested reaching out to the college on filling certain positions in the county school districts.

Veterans Assistance:

B. Lavite handed out his monthly report. He highlighted certain statistics of the report. He still informed the committee that they are in need of volunteers for drivers. He also mentioned there will be a class at Eden Church that is open to veterans on dealing with a crisis. He also said that a veteran and his family was approved for a Habitat for Humanity house. It will be built in East Alton.

Mental Health:

J. Roth informed the committee that 17 of the major state contractors are not making payroll due to the state’s situation. She did say that the two agencies she is involved with, Cornerstone and Chestnut have been able to survive the state’s financial situation. She mentioned the application cycle will open up on July 1st and run through July 21st. J. Roth is hoping to get opening in her office approved by the personnel committee and then get it posted right away. There is a support group for families that have lost someone to overdose, it is wanting to get started in August. There will be another suicide prevention training held tomorrow.

Child Advocacy:

C. Cohan reported the center conducted 31 interviews for the month of May. She informed the committee that the application for the VOCA funding has been submitted and they should hear something soon. She also mentioned the renovations are still ongoing for the new added space at the center.

Museum:

The new museum director John Parkin introduced himself to the committee. He gave his ideas and insight on what direction he would like to see the museum headed.

Mr. Malone moved, seconded by Mr. Petrillo, to approve the bills for the month. The ayes and nays being called on the motion to approve resulted in a vote as follows: Ayes: Malone, Petrillo, Dutton and Minner. Nays: None.

A moment of silence was taken in honor of the shooting in Virginia.

Mr. Minner moved, seconded by Ms. Dutton, to adjourn the meeting. Motion Carried.
