City of Alton Civil Service Commission met Aug. 16.
Here is the agenda provided by the Commission:
A regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was called to order at 8:15am on August 16, 2017, at Alton City Hall, 101 E. Third Street, Alton, Illinois.
Members Present: Terry Bristow, Vicki Searles-Williams
Members Absent: Jonas Janek
Staff Present: Civil Service Attorney Patrick King
Guests Present:
A motion was made by Mr. Bristow and seconded by Ms. Williams to approve the minutes of the regular meeting on August 4, 2017. Motion passed.
Resignation form from mark Cunningham was signed.
Discussed and signed the revised job descriptions for Firefighter and Fire Engineer.
Street Grade V and Police Officer Requisitions were signed.
Ms. Williams made a motion, seconded by Mr. Bristow to vote on removal of the following text from Civil Service Rule 7.12B:
“In the event an applicant for the position of Firefighter with the City of Alton can provide proof that the State of Illinois recognizes the applicant’s certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic, a preference credit of three (3) points shall be added to the final grade evaluation of the applicant if that grade evaluation is 70 or higher. If an applicant can provide proof that the State of Illinois recognizes the applicant’s certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, a paramedic preference credit of five (5) points shall be added to the final grade evaluation of the applicant if that grade evaluation is 70 or higher. Total points to be added based on certification as an Emergency Medical Technician shall not exceed five (5) points.”
All in favor: Mr. Bristow and Ms. Williams. Opposed: None. The above will be removed from the Rules.
Discussion of the Police Department hiring Robert Ross to a Police Officer position. Pat King will send a letter to the Chief and we will make Mr. Ross a conditional offer of employment today.
Three police officer interviews are scheduled for September 6, 2017. With no further business, Ms. Williams made a motion, seconded by Mr. Bristow to adjourn at 8:43am.
Motion passed.
