Michael Babcock said beyond the hustle, bustle and gifts, the true meaning of the holiday season is Jesus Christ.
“My wife and I have instilled that in our three boys during the holiday season, and throughout the entire year, and that they should give generously,” Babcock told the Metro East Sun, adding during the season it is important to be surrounded friends and family.
The Bethalto Republican, who is seeking the seat in the 111th House District held by Rep. Daniel Beiser (D-Alton), who is not seeking re-election, said being a public servant of the people is all about letting go of selfishness and greed that could be possessed in exchange for generosity.
“My family firmly believes that the best gift that we can receive this holiday season is the feeling of joy when we give to others,” Babcock said.
Babcock, an insurance firm owner offered up his personal plans for the holiday.
“My wife, Carol, and I plan to have Christmas dinner with our three sons, Jonathan, Joseph and Michael,” Babcock said. “We will also attend a Christmas Eve church service together.”
True to his Christian beliefs, the candidate said it is better to give than to receive.
“We choose several organizations like Dream Home Charity and Toys for Tots as a family to donate to in order to provide a good Christmas to a family that is less fortunate than ours,” Babcock said, adding giving is the lifeline that makes better people. “It helps us to not focus on ourselves, but on those that are less fortunate.”
There are so very many in need all year through, Babcock added.
“My family and I are extremely blessed and we feel that it is an obligation of ours to give back to the wonderful organizations within the Riverbend area,” Babcock said. “Organizations like the Hope Center in Cottage Hills that helps those families in need. These are the organizations that reach out to people all over our area to support them and make their families stronger.”
