A new Liberty Principles PAC ad on YouTube paints veteran state Rep. Charlie Meier (R-Okawville) as having turned his back on the voters of the 108th District in aligning himself with powerful House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago).
“You know Charlie Meier voted for Mike Madigan’s 32 percent income tax hike, but that’s only half the story,” a voice blares in the ad. Branding the tax hike the largest in state history, the video adds “after raising taxes, Meier sent our money to bail out Chicago Public Schools' pensions.”
Later, the ad charges Meier has also been a constant supporter of policies put forth by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, in some instances even to the detriment of her constituents.
“Charlie Meier isn’t serving us, he’s serving us up to Chicago,” the ad says.
Meier is being challenged in the March 20 Republican primary by Army veteran and Troy resident Don Moore, who has pointed to the state’s spiraling out-migration problem as a clear-cut indicator of all that’s going wrong in Springfield.
Born and raised in Illinois, Moore brought his family back to Illinois after he left the military in 2011 and has vowed to be part the solution needed to put the state back on course.
