St Elizabeth's Hospital issued the following announcement on May 9.

Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) today announced that Patricia L. Fischer, interim president and chief executive officer (CEO) at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon and former chief operating officer (COO) at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, has accepted an invitation to serve as the permanent president and CEO of St. Elizabeth’s. Fischer officially assumes the role immediately.

Fischer joined HSHS in August 2014 as president and CEO of HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. She then became the COO at St. John’s Hospital in November 2016. Under her leadership at St. Francis and St. John’s, operating margins more than doubled, colleague engagement scores increased and physician satisfaction improved.

“Patti brings a wealth of experience to St. Elizabeth’s and proven leadership across HSHS,” said James Dover, HSHS Southern Illinois Division president and CEO. “In the short time she has served as interim president and CEO, she has made a tremendous impact and we know that will only continue.”

Prior to her arrival at St. Francis Hospital, she served in various roles in hospital operations and physician practice management including physician recruitment. She has more than 20 years of health care leadership experience and previously served as vice president of physician services for Saint Anthony’s Health Center in Alton, Illinois. Fischer began her career as a staff nurse in a critical care unit at St. Luke’s in St. Louis, Missouri where she received her nursing diploma. She also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

A public meet and greet event is being planned for June 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. with full details to be made available soon.

Fischer and her husband, Greg Elliott, plan to relocate to the area. They have four children and three grandchildren.

“It is an honor and privilege to become the president and CEO at St. Elizabeth’s in O’Fallon,” said Fischer. “This is a beautiful new hospital in a wonderful community with incredible caregivers who help so many patients and families every day. I look forward to working with them more as we provide high-quality patient-centered care that not only improves the lives of individuals, but also improves the health and quality of life for the community.”
