Report: Madison spent $12,178 per student in 2016-17

Spending per pupil at Madison Community Unit School District 12 is down 19 percent from five years ago, according to a Metro East Sun analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2016-17 report card shows the Madison County school district spent $15,050 per pupil in 2012-13. It spent $12,178 in 2016-17.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 786 to 688.

Madison's spending in 2016-17 was 6 percent lower than the state average of $12,973.
