Report: Granite City spent $9,747 per student in 2016-17

Spending per pupil at Granite City Community Unit School District 9 is down 1 percent from five years ago, according to a Metro East Sun analysis of district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2016-17 report card shows the Madison County school district spent $9,867 per pupil in 2012-13. It spent $9,747 in 2016-17.

The district saw its enrollment fall over the same period, from 6474 to 6189.

Granite City's spending in 2016-17 was 25 percent lower than the state average of $12,973.
