Anderson Hospital issued the following announcement on June 18.
On Sunday June 17, 2018, Coert Shepard, past President and Chief Executive Officer of Anderson Hospital, passed away at the age of 86.
Coert was instrumental in the planning and opening of Anderson in 1977 serving as the Vice-President of Finance; he also held the same position at Christian Welfare Hospital, the sponsoring organization for Anderson. He assumed the position of President and CEO in 1986 after Dan Hicks, Anderson’s President passed away.
As President from 1986 to 2003 Coert oversaw the expansion of the Pavilion for Women and the addition of the Physician Office Building at Anderson. He worked to solidify the hospital’s financial strength during the challenging early years of the hospital and positioned it for the growth that has since been Anderson’s hallmark. After his retirement, Coert served as Treasurer of the Anderson Hospital Auxiliary for several years.
Coert was elected to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Illinois Hospital Association and President of Region 4 during his tenure and also served on the Southwestern Illinois Leadership Council. Coert was a mentor and friend to many at Anderson Hospital and will be missed by the hospital staff and his family including his wife, Donna Shepard, Clinical Manager of Anderson’s Home Health department and his granddaughter, Crystal Reiff, Education Coordinator.
Please keep Coert’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
