The Collinsville boys' soccer team received a hero’s welcome, after finishing third in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 3A state tournament.

Supporters turned out to salute the Kahoks in a celebration that was moved to Fletcher’s Gym due to bad weather.

The Kahoks set the scene for the festivities by knocking off Lake Park 3-2, 5-4 in penalty kicks in the third-place game at Hoffman Estates.

The win capped the school’s best state finish in more than two decades and marked their first state run since 2007.

“Way to play Kahoks,” school officials posted on the school’s website. “We are waiting for you to come home and celebrate:"

Goalkeeper Tate Wyatt had eight saves against Lake Park, including one in the penalty kicks on the fourth kick. Luke Liljegren then sealed the victory on the fifth kick.

Collinsville finished the season at 19-6-2, and just missed on advancing to the title game by falling to undefeated Libertyville 1-0 in the semifinals
