Seniors Preston Thompson, Jalyn Williams and Cole Foster lead a group of 19 McKendree University football players tabbed for Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) 2018 all-conference recognition.
According to the school's website, joining the senior trio as GLVC first-team selections is sophomore kicker Josh Lazaro. Thompson led McKendree with 1,073 yards rushing this season from his running back position to go along with nine touchdowns. Williams, a receiver, finished second on the team with 40 receptions for 615 yards and a school-record eight touchdowns.
At right tackle, Foster anchored a Bearcats’ offense that scored the most points in school history, while kicker Lazaro broke the school’s kick-scoring record with 83 points.
Quarterback Reece Metcalf was one of eight Bearcats named to the second team, finishing the season with a school-record 27 touchdown passes and completing 66 percent of his passes for 2,622 yards.
Jake King, Matt Cole, Jace Franklin, Steven Leadlove, Brandon Purnell, Isaiah Ward and Mike Smith were all named as honorable mention All-GLVC selections for the Bearcats, who finished the season 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the GLVC.
