O'FALLON POLICE DEPARTMENT: Achieves ILEAP Accreditation Status

Police 04

O'Fallon Police Department issued the following announcement on Nov. 28.

The O’Fallon, Illinois Police Department has achieved Accreditation status through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP) developed by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP). The O’Fallon Police Accreditation process began in February 2018 and was on ongoing process whereby 67 standards and policies of the O’Fallon Police Department were evaluated against an established criterion by an independent and authoritative body of the ILACP.

“The O’Fallon Police Department is the best around, and this accreditation is just another example of that,” said Mayor Herb Roach. “Hats off to everyone involved!”

The standards are divided into four general subject areas: Administration, Operations, Personnel, and Training. The assessment consists of 2-3 days of file review with ILACP appointed assessors, department tours, vehicle inspection, interviews, ride-a-longs, 2-day on-site assessment and a 2-hour public opinion phone-in session. Once the assessment is completed, an assessment report is submitted to the ILEAP Committee for review and action.

The official Accreditation award ceremony will take place at the O’Fallon City Council meeting on Monday, December 3rd at 7 p.m. O’Fallon Police Department will be one of only three Illinois law enforcement agencies south of Champaign with this Accreditation status. The other agencies are the City of Carbondale Police Department and SIU-C Police Department.
