McKendree clobbers Illinois state, sets record
The McKendree University men’s D2 hockey team set a school record for most goals scored in a game its 21-0 drubbing of Illinois State on Dec. 8.
In all, 13 Bearcats players scored and 12 had assists in running the team’s overall record to 16-4-1.
According to the school's website, junior Tyler Wilson led the way for McKendree with three goals, while the quartet of Ryan Reader, Daniel Norlander, Dominic Naas and Connor Breenan all netted a pair of scores each.
The Bearcats, who also saw sophomore Tyler Estermayer and freshmen Trevor Wolf notch their first goals of the season, led 17-0 at halftime.
Goalies Wes Werner and Zach Stenger combined to record the shutout for the Bearcats.
McKendree and veteran Head Coach Garry Henson now have roughly three weeks off to fine tune their high-powered attack even more before returning to action Jan. 11 for back-to-back tilts against Maryville University at McKendree Metro Rec Plex and on the road against Adrian College.
